مجموعة من القصص المأساوية التي قدمها لنا المنفلوطي معا، تفرد فيها بأسلوبه العبقري وأحاط فيها بكل ما يمكن من جمال أدب وحسن بلاغة وعفيف لفظ.ورغم ما تحمله القصص من حسن صياغة في الأدب إلا أنها مأساوية بشكل مذهل، تشعر فيها أن المنفلوطي يضرب أركان القلب.بسياط القلم، ورغم أنك تنتقل من مأساة إلى أخرى إلا أنك لا تستطيع أن تنكر أو تخفي أن بين يديك كنزًا أدبيا لا يبارى.
