تعد رواية ابتسم فأنت ميت من روايات الرعب التشويقية المليئة بالأحداث التي تجعلك لا ترغب في توقف قراءتها قبل أن تعرف النهاية الغير متوقعة للرواية، وهي من درر الروائي حسن الجندي المعروف عنه طريقة كتابته وسرده المميزة لرواياته المختلفة، لذلك نجد الرواية ذات أسلوب رائع مشوق للقارئ وتعبيرات رائعة سهلة ومفهومة مما جعل تلك الرواية الرائعة تحقق انتشار واسع في مصر وخارجها،

هناك ثلاثة شخصيات رئيسية في هذه الرواية المرعبة هم سيد وصادق وأمجد الذين قاموا باستئجار أحد الشقق بعمارة قديمة تلك العمارة موجودة بشارع عماد الدين في منطقة وسط البلد، وكان هذه بؤرة الأحداث في رواية ابتسم فأنت ميت حيث تحتوي الرواية على الكثير من الأحداث المرعبة المفزعة والتشويقية في نفس الوقت، ويجدر القول أن الرواية ليست من روايات الرعب التقليدية حتى لو كانت في ظاهرها كذلك وتعتبر من أفضل روايات الرعب في مصر حتى الآن.
