قبل عدّة أعوام، تلقّت تشيماماندا رسالة من إحدى صديقات طفولتها، تطلب منها النُّصح في أمر تربيّة طفلتها كي تقودها إلى النّجاح وتنميّة شخصيّتها القياديّة. هذا الكتيّب هو جوابها. خمسة عشر مقترحًا ظريفًا، مباشرًا وعصريًّا، غايتها الوصول إلى تمكين تلك الابنة كي تنمو قويّة وتغدو امرأة مستقلّة. إنها نقاشات مفتوحة عن الملابس، والماكياج، والنسويّة؛ تفضح خرافة أن المرأة خُلقَت بجسدٍ لا يتموضع سوى في المطبخ، وأن الرّجال هم من بيدهم الأمر كي “يسمحوا” للمرأة بالعمل وتولّي مناصب قياديّة. “عزيزتي هاجَر” تنفذ إلى قلب السياسة غير العادلة بين الجنسين في القرن الواحد والعشرين.
